You don’t need me to tell you that social media has been growing in importance over the last few years. In fact, if your brand isn’t active on social media, you are seriously missing out on both connecting with your current customers, and attracting new ones.
The good news is, when it comes to figuring out how to create a killer social media plan you can look at what’s working for other brands and use that for inspiration with your own campaigns.
The biggest key? Making sure you find a way to engage with your customers authentically.
Sure, that may be easy for the likes of Nike or Red Bull, but most conventional brands don’t have quite the material of those two juggernauts to work with. But, that can’t be an excuse. These brands have been able to grow tons of fans online through their social media skills.
What sets these brands apart is the way they connect, no matter if it’s through humor, heart strings, or customer service. Nail one of these, and you’re going to be well on your way to noticeable social media success.
Let’s take a look.
Humor: Charmin
Yup, the toilet paper people. What Charmin has been able to do is take a topic that’s not very exciting and turn it into something fun that gets people talking about them.

Focusing on humor and using hashtag campaigns like #TweetFromTheSeat, Charmin has been able to grow to just under 70 thousand followers on Twitter, with a ton of engagement and retweets on virtually every post.
Video: Dove Beauty
The beauty brand Dove has been able to take their social media engagement to the next level by going all in on video. If you take a quick glance at their YouTube channel, you’ll find every video has tens of thousands of views, and some have multiple millions.
Their plan is to speak directly to their target customer and go all in on what they care about. Dove has clearly done their homework on the emotions that drive their customers and have created their YouTube campaigns to speak directly to them.
Customer Support: Xbox
Gaming giant Xbox knows its fans take their service very seriously. Not to mention, as everyone knows, there are all sorts of potential issues that can happen online, leading to lots of unhappy users.
Hey everyone! We’re seeing reports that things are looking better. Be sure to power cycle your console/network & give it another shot.

Xbox fixed that by creating XboxSupport, a Twitter feed 100% dedicated to customer service and support. And guess what? It works. The twitter account for XboxSupport has consistently been rated as one of the most responsive brands on social media.
Engagement: Litographs
For the book nerds in all of us, Litographs is it. This brand looks to create art from books. With over 85,000 fans on Facebook, they have plenty of people who enjoy their products.
But what’s more interesting is the amount of engagement each post gets. Needless to say, Litographs has discovered exactly what kind of content their fans want to see and love, and delivers that on an consistent basis.
Images: Intel
Now, there’s not too much that’s sexy about semiconductor chips, right? Well, not so fast. Turns out Intel has found the key to making what they do interesting enough to attract almost 300,000 followers on Instagram.
The above image alone got over 6,500 likes on Instagram. So what’s their secret? They go deep behind the scenes, giving followers all sorts of cool tech heavy information on what’s happening at Intel.
These are just a few examples of brands killing it on social media.
Of course, there are many more, but if you look at what these brands are doing and implement them into your own brand, you might find yourself attracting a new legion of fans on social media.
